A 39-year-old prisoner at Edgefield Federal Prison passes away

An inmate at the Federal Correctional Institution Edgefield in South Carolina died after being found unresponsive this week, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Inmate Found Unresponsive at FCI Edgefield

Officials said 39-year-old Dale Scott was discovered unresponsive at around 10:35 p.m. Monday at the medium-security federal prison.

Prison employees immediately began life-saving efforts and called emergency medical services.

Taken to Hospital Before Death Confirmed

According to the Bureau of Prisons, Scott was transported to a local hospital by emergency crews, where he was later pronounced dead.

Authorities have not released the cause of death.

FBI Notified

The Federal Bureau of Prisons said the FBI has been notified about the incident.

Officials also confirmed:

  • No prison employees were injured
  • No other inmates were harmed
  • There was no danger to the public

Inmate Had Been in Custody Since February

Authorities said Scott had been housed at FCI Edgefield since Feb. 9.

No additional details about his incarceration were immediately released.

Officials continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the inmate’s death.
