A single vehicle crash results in the death of a teenager

A 16-year-old Anderson teen died in a single-vehicle crash in Pendleton during Memorial Day weekend, according to the Anderson County Coroner’s Office and South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Teen Killed in Pendleton Crash

Authorities said the crash happened just before 12:30 a.m. Monday on Five Forks Road near Pearman Drive in Pendleton, South Carolina.

The victim was identified as Spencer James Martin, a 16-year-old from Anderson.

Officials said Martin was riding in the front passenger seat and died at the scene from multiple traumatic injuries.

The coroner ruled the death accidental.

Two Others Injured

According to investigators:

  • The driver was injured
  • A second passenger was also hurt

Both were transported by EMS for medical treatment.

Authorities have not released details about the severity of the injuries.

Crash Happened During ‘100 Deadliest Days of Summer’

The deadly crash happened during Memorial Day weekend, which marks the beginning of the “100 Deadliest Days of Summer.”

Safety officials use the term to describe the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day when fatal crashes involving teen drivers and passengers often increase.

Investigation Ongoing

The South Carolina Highway Patrol and Anderson County Coroner’s Office continue investigating the cause of the crash.

Officials have not yet said what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway.
