Hickory sweeps the RiverDogs' doubleheader as their bats fall cold

The Charleston RiverDogs were swept in a doubleheader against the Hickory Crawdads on May 24 at Truist Stadium in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Charleston failed to score in either contest, extending the team’s losing streak to four games.

The RiverDogs have now dropped six of their last seven games and trail Hickory in the Carolina League South Division standings.

Hickory Pitching Dominates Game 1

Hickory won the opening game 4-0 behind a strong performance from starting pitcher AJ Russell.

Russell threw 3 2/3 scoreless innings while striking out six batters and allowing only one hit.

Relievers Geury Rodriguez and Owen Proksch combined to finish the shutout effort for the Crawdads.

Hickory’s offense was led by Josh Spring, who drove in a run with a single in the third inning, and Esteban Mejia, who added a home run in the fourth.

RiverDogs Limited to Two Hits in Opener

Charleston starter Dominic Fritton pitched five innings and recorded three strikeouts.

The RiverDogs managed only two hits during the game, with singles from Taitn Gray and Derek Datil.

Both players also recorded stolen bases.

Trey Pooser Throws Well in Tough-Luck Loss

Game 2 turned into a pitchers’ duel, with Hickory securing a 1-0 victory.

Charleston pitcher Trey Pooser, a former Hanahan High School standout, delivered five strong innings while allowing only one run.

The deciding run came in the fourth inning on an RBI double by Paulino Santana.

Pooser suffered his first loss of the season despite the quality outing.

Hickory Holds Division Lead

Hickory starter Evan Siary continued his impressive form by throwing six shutout innings while allowing only three hits.

Charleston’s offense again struggled to generate scoring chances, though Brailer Guerrero contributed a hit and a stolen base.

The RiverDogs now sit three games behind Hickory in the Carolina League South Division standings.

Road Trip Continues in Columbia

Following an off day on Monday, Charleston will continue its road trip with a six-game series against the Columbia Fireflies.

The series opener is scheduled for Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m.

The RiverDogs will return home on June 2 for a six-game homestand against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans.
