A Kansas man was found guilty of murdering his wife after obsessively stalking her during a bitter divorce.
Conviction and Charges
Brian McKay, 55, was convicted on May 14 of first-degree murder for the November 2024 death of his 50-year-old wife, Monica McKay. He was also found guilty of stalking, first-degree murder in the commission of an inherently dangerous felony, aggravated burglary, and violating a protective order.
The Crime
Prosecutors said the killing stemmed from a bitter divorce that left Brian McKay financially ruined. He had placed covert cameras and microphones in Monica McKay’s home, used a GPS tracking device on her vehicle, and was subject to a protective order at the time of the murder. Authorities said he beat, stripped, strangled, and drowned her in a bathtub. An autopsy determined her death was caused by drowning, with contributing strangulation and blunt-force trauma.
Background and Motive
Monica McKay filed for divorce and obtained a protection-from-stalking order just days before her death. Prosecutors said Brian McKay’s obsessive behavior and financial resentment motivated the murder.
He is scheduled to be sentenced on July 20.
