Authorities may have discovered the body of a South Carolina mother, four years after she allegedly went missing. Krystal Anderson, 30, disappeared in August 2022 in Aiken County, leaving behind her four children.
Investigation and Arrest
Anderson’s boyfriend, Tony Berry, was later arrested and charged with kidnapping and murder. Investigators reportedly found her DNA in the trunk of a car that had been burned in Newberry County. Berry’s trial was scheduled to begin next week but has been postponed due to the discovery of the remains.
Discovery of the Remains
Aiken County deputies found human remains buried near Highway 37, close to Blackville. Officials are conducting DNA testing but believe the remains may belong to Anderson. Investigators also found belongings matching Anderson’s items near the site.
Private investigator Chandra Cleveland said, “It was devastating … it’s just like the first day it happened when she went missing.” She added that the discovery may allow Anderson to have a proper resting place and give her children closure.
Impact on the Family
Anderson’s four children have been living in separate homes with family members since her disappearance. Her sister, Shadria Smothers, described the hardship of the separation, especially for the youngest child, who is now 6 years old.
Smothers emphasized that Anderson was a devoted mother who would never leave her children voluntarily and urged anyone with information to come forward during the investigation.
