A late-morning yard fire in Hamlet destroyed several storage buildings and damaged a nearby home Thursday, according to the Hamlet Fire Department.
Fire Started From Burn Pit
Fire officials said the blaze began in the backyard of a home on Kristy Lane near County Home Road.
Residents reportedly told firefighters they had burned debris in a fire pit the night before and believed the fire had been fully extinguished.
Authorities said the debris later rekindled and spread to neighboring properties between Kristy Lane and Rabbit Hare Road.
Buildings and Home Damaged
According to firefighters, the fire destroyed:
- Multiple storage buildings
- A pumphouse
Officials also said the flames damaged a nearby home by melting vinyl siding and igniting part of the porch.
Several Agencies Responded
The fire department was dispatched around 11:46 a.m.
Crews from multiple agencies responded, including:
- East Rockingham Fire Department
- Northside Fire Department
- North Carolina Forest Service
- Richmond County Sheriff’s Office
No Injuries Reported
Officials said no injuries were reported in the fire.
The North Carolina Forest Service issued a warning ticket following the incident.
