A Maryland man has been charged with murder after police say he fatally stabbed his 80-year-old mother inside their home.
Man Accused of Killing Mother
Authorities identified the suspect as 54-year-old Darrick Alston.
He faces first- and second-degree murder charges in the death of Brenda Wheeler, 80.
Police Say Multiple Knives Were Used
Investigators said the mother and son were involved in an argument Tuesday morning at a home in Cheverly, Maryland.
According to police, Alston admitted he stabbed his mother multiple times and broke the first knife during the attack.
Authorities allege he then went downstairs, got two more knives, and continued stabbing her.
Victim Found Dead Inside Home
Police said Alston called authorities shortly after 9 a.m. and reported that he thought he had hurt his mother.
Officers arrived and found Wheeler suffering from multiple stab wounds.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Suspect Held Without Bond
Alston was arrested and remains in custody without bond.
His next court appearance is scheduled for June 12.
