An Oklahoma couple has pleaded guilty to murder after their 2-year-old son died from starvation, according to federal prosecutors.
Parents Plead Guilty in Toddler’s Death
Daniel Ash, 33, and Amber Murphy, 32, admitted to one count each of second-degree murder in connection with the death of their son, Charles Wayne Ash.
The child was taken to a hospital in Miami, Oklahoma, on Sept. 11, 2024, where he was pronounced dead.
Autopsy Revealed Severe Starvation
According to an autopsy report, Charles weighed only 17 pounds at the time of his death.
Medical examiners said the toddler died from starvation and showed severe signs of neglect, including dehydration, anemia, muscle wasting, and almost no body fat.
Doctors also reported that the child was unresponsive when he arrived at the hospital and showed signs of brain damage.
Child Had Never Seen a Doctor
Investigators said Charles had never been taken to a doctor after being born in July 2022.
The autopsy also noted dirty fingernails and toenails, low blood sugar levels, and that his brain weighed less than expected for a child his age.
Other Charges and Plea Deal
The couple was charged in 2025 over Charles’ death and alleged neglect involving their other four children.
As part of a plea agreement, a child sex abuse charge previously filed against Daniel Ash was dismissed.
Sentencing Yet to Be Scheduled
Court records show that sentencing dates for Ash and Murphy have not yet been announced.
