A Utah man has been accused of trying to kill his wife by choking her and attempting to snap her neck during a domestic violence incident, police said.
Man Accused of Attempted Murder
Aaron Ray Thomas, 27, faces charges including attempted murder, aggravated kidnapping, and reckless endangerment after the alleged attack at the couple’s home in Tooele County on May 7.
According to police, Thomas allegedly told his wife, “I hope you die” and “Why won’t you die?” while choking her.
Wife Escaped and Called 911
Investigators said the victim told officers Thomas grabbed her neck and head with both hands and violently twisted them.
The woman managed to escape the house and tried to drive away, but Thomas allegedly jumped behind her vehicle to stop her.
Police said the victim could be heard screaming during the 911 call. Officers later noticed red marks on her neck, and she reportedly told them she feared for her life.
Earlier Scissors Attack Reported
Court records show Thomas was previously accused of attacking the same woman in March with a pair of scissors during an argument.
Police said he allegedly stabbed her hand before stabbing himself and later blaming the victim for the injuries.
History of Domestic Violence Calls
Authorities said police had responded to several previous domestic violence incidents involving Thomas.
Investigators also said Thomas repeatedly requested welfare checks to locate his wife after alleged domestic disputes, while the victim reportedly told officers she did not want him to know where she was because of his violent behaviour.
Suspect Held Without Bail
Thomas was arrested and booked into the Tooele County Detention Center, where he remains held without bail.
