KEY WEST, Fla. — A man from Belmont, North Carolina, tragically passed away while snorkeling in the Florida Keys on Mother’s Day. According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, 56-year-old Benjamin Lee Millspaw was found unconscious in the water near Cottrell Key off Key West around noon on Sunday, May 10.
Millspaw was pulled from the water by the commercial snorkel company he was with and was later pronounced dead at Lower Keys Medical Center on Stock Island.
Foul play is not suspected, and an autopsy is pending. The United States Coast Guard responded to the incident.
