A 21-year-old woman in Virginia has been charged in connection with the deaths of her 17-month-old twin sons, who were found with apparent drowning injuries last month.
Mother Charged In Twins’ Deaths
Court records show Amaya Dixon was arrested Thursday after a grand jury indicted her on two counts of felony murder and two counts of child neglect.
According to the Richmond Police Department, officers responded to an apartment on German School Road around 8:39 p.m. on April 17 after receiving a report about two injured children.
Toddlers Found In Bathtub
Investigators said the twin boys were found suffering from apparent drowning injuries in a bathtub.
The children were taken to a hospital for treatment, but both later died. One child was pronounced dead the same night, while the second child died the following day.
Investigation Remains Ongoing
Police said the department’s Major Crimes Unit is continuing to investigate the case. Authorities have not released a possible motive or additional details about the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Court records also show Dixon was previously facing several unrelated charges in Chesterfield County, including credit card theft, grand larceny, fraud-related offenses, and possession of stolen property.
Authorities are asking anyone with information related to the case to contact the Richmond Police Department.
