A Laurens County man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison after pleading guilty to murder and a weapons violation in connection with a deadly incident at the Laurens County Courthouse. Stephen Andrew White, 39, pleaded guilty last week to the charges that stemmed from a violent altercation in August 2024.
Details of the Incident
The tragic event unfolded following a child custody hearing at the courthouse, where both White and the victim were present. After the hearing, White parted ways with his attorney in the courthouse parking lot. White then got into his vehicle and intentionally struck the victim, who was standing next to his own car.
The impact of the vehicle caused severe injuries to the victim. White exited the car, armed with a firearm, and approached the victim who was lying on the pavement. White then shot the victim in the head, causing his death.
Sentencing
As part of his guilty plea, White was sentenced to a total of 40 years in the South Carolina Department of Corrections. The court’s decision reflects the severity of the crime and the brutal nature of the attack.
