Christina Kay Crow, a 40-year-old woman from Thompsonville, Michigan, has been arrested and charged with assault with intent to murder and first-degree child abuse after her 5-year-old daughter was found severely injured in the woods behind their home. Authorities allege that Crow attempted to kill her daughter, who sustained severe lacerations to her neck and face.
The Investigation and Discovery
The investigation into Crow’s actions began on Monday when deputies with the Benzie County Sheriff’s Office conducted a welfare check at her home on Lincoln Avenue in the Village of Thompsonville, located about 250 miles northwest of Detroit. While at the residence, officers became concerned about the well-being and whereabouts of Crow’s young daughter, prompting them to search the area for the child.
After approximately 90 minutes of searching, authorities discovered the 5-year-old girl in the woods behind the house. She had sustained extensive injuries, including deep lacerations to her neck and face. Emergency medical personnel quickly transported the child to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City for initial treatment. Due to the severity of her condition, she was subsequently transferred to Corewell Health Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids for more specialized care.
Arrest and Charges
Following the discovery of the child, Christina Kay Crow was arrested at the scene and taken into custody. She was charged with assault with intent to murder and first-degree child abuse. Crow appeared in Michigan’s 85th District Court for her arraignment on Wednesday, where a judge ordered her held on $1 million bond.
Due to the ongoing investigation and the young age of the victim, authorities have not yet released further details about the circumstances surrounding the attack or the nature of the concerns that prompted the welfare check.
Court Proceedings and Future Hearings
Christina Crow is scheduled to return to court for a probable cause hearing on May 7, 2026, followed by a preliminary exam on May 14. As the investigation continues, the community is left in shock and disbelief over the alleged actions of a mother against her own child.
The condition and recovery of Crow’s daughter remain a primary concern, and authorities are working to piece together the events that led to this horrific situation.
