The investigation into Crow’s actions began on Monday when deputies with the Benzie County Sheriff’s Office conducted a welfare check at her home on Lincoln Avenue in the Village of Thompsonville, located about 250 miles northwest of Detroit. After approximately 90 minutes of searching, authorities discovered the 5-year-old girl in the woods behind the house.
