Authorities say:

  • Darian Ragland, 39, was driving to pick up his 7-year-old daughter
  • Another driver, Polo Shaw, 33, attempted to merge into his lane
  • Ragland reportedly did not allow the merge

Deadly Escalation

Police allege that the situation quickly escalated:

  • The two vehicles continued driving alongside each other
  • On Branch Avenue, Shaw allegedly fired a gun into Ragland’s car
  • Ragland lost control, crossed the median, and crashed into a barrier

Emergency responders found him with a gunshot wound. He was later pronounced dead.

Victim Unaware of Danger

Officials believe Ragland was not expecting violence.

Authorities noted:

  • There was no clear confrontation before the shooting
  • The victim likely had no idea he was about to be attacked

Investigation and Arrest

Investigators used multiple pieces of evidence to identify the suspect:

  • Cellphone data placing Shaw near the scene
  • License plate reader footage tracking his vehicle

Shaw was later arrested and charged with:

  • Second-degree murder

He is currently being held without bond.
