A tragic accident in Lake Forest has left a community deeply shaken after an elderly teacher and war veteran was seriously injured in a hit-and-run involving a teenager on an electric bike.

The victim, Ed Ashman, an 81-year-old substitute teacher and Vietnam War veteran, was walking home from El Toro High School when the incident occurred.
Police say the accident happened near Toledo Way and Ridge Route Drive around 4 p.m. Ashman was crossing the street when a 14-year-old riding an electric motorcycle allegedly hit him.
When deputies arrived, they found him on the roadside with life-threatening injuries.
