A South Carolina veteran received a life-changing gift as a nonprofit organization donated a specially adapted home designed to meet his needs after being seriously injured in service.
Home Built for Accessibility
The home, located on McFarland Road in York, was donated by Homes For Our Troops to Nicholas Firth, a U.S. Army sergeant who was severely injured while serving in Iraq.
The house includes a range of custom features tailored for wheelchair accessibility, ensuring greater independence and comfort.
Features Designed for Daily Living
The specially adapted home includes:
- Wider doorways for easier mobility
- Roll-under countertops and sinks
- A roll-in shower for accessibility
These modifications are designed to remove common barriers and improve day-to-day living for injured veterans.
Supporting Veterans Beyond Service
Homes For Our Troops is known for building and donating mortgage-free homes to severely injured post-9/11 veterans, helping them rebuild their lives after service-related injuries.
The donation reflects ongoing efforts to support veterans not just during their service, but long after they return home.
