Charleston County nonprofits can now apply for federal HUD funding to tackle housing and community development needs, with a key deadline of April 22, 2026.
Available Programs
Funds cover four HUD programs for the 2026-2027 year (September 1, 2026–August 31, 2027): Community Development Block Grant (CDBG, ~$1.76M expected), HOME Investment Partnerships (~$734K including CHDO set-aside), Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO), and Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG, ~$159K). Awards depend on applications and needs, ranging historically from $2K to $700K per program.
Application Process
Submit electronically via the Neighborly portal (instructions and guidelines on Charleston County’s Community Development site). A workshop runs today (March 31) from 10:30 a.m.–noon at the Lonnie Hamilton Public Services Building in North Charleston. Another cycle opens in September.
Local Context
Councilwoman Jenny Honeycutt highlighted the county’s housing crisis, stressing public-private partnerships for affordable units beyond market-rate builds. This aid fosters revitalization and supply growth.
Great SC opportunity amid your local news focus—unlike recent crime stories, this boosts community stability. Need application links or tips?
