COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina Forestry Commission has announced that a statewide burn ban will be lifted on Monday morning, but residents are still urged to exercise caution when burning outdoors.
Burn Ban Lifted, Caution Advised
The burn ban, which was implemented on Friday due to low humidity and gusty winds, will expire at 7 a.m. on Monday. These weather conditions, which led to heightened fire danger, have now subsided.
However, officials still warn that elevated drought conditions across much of the state require people to remain “extremely vigilant” when engaging in outdoor burning activities.
Ongoing Drought Conditions
While rain chances are expected to increase later in the week, officials say it will not be enough to significantly alleviate the state’s drought conditions. As a result, the risk of fire remains elevated, and residents are encouraged to be mindful of fire safety.
Requirements for Outdoor Burning
Even though the burn ban is lifted, anyone planning to conduct outdoor burning—whether for residential yard debris or prescribed burns—must still notify the South Carolina Forestry Commission before proceeding. This helps ensure that burns are managed safely and within the state’s regulations.
