SOUTH CAROLINA — Most public schools across South Carolina are expected to be closed on Good Friday, April 3, 2026, according to a review of district calendars statewide.

School Closures on Good Friday

Although South Carolina does not require a single statewide school holiday calendar, many school districts across the state have incorporated Good Friday into their schedules. A significant number of schools will close on that day, either due to it being a holiday or as part of spring break.

For example, Lexington County School District One includes April 3 in its spring break, meaning students will already be off for Good Friday.

Similarly, Kershaw County School District lists spring break from March 30 through April 3, with no classes on Good Friday. Marion County School District also aligns spring break with Good Friday, confirming school closures.

District-Specific Policies

Other districts, such as Orangeburg County School District, explicitly reference Good Friday on April 3 in their calendars, alongside the start of spring break, ensuring that there will be no school for students.

In Richland School District Two, April 3 is designated a “staff work day/student holiday,” meaning students will have the day off.

No Centralized Calendar

South Carolina’s decentralized approach to school calendars means there is no unified statewide list of school closures. However, a review of district schedules shows a clear pattern: the majority of public schools in South Carolina will be closed on Good Friday 2026, either as a holiday or as part of spring break.

Families are encouraged to check with their local school district for specific details, as a small number of districts may organize their calendars differently.
