PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The University of Pittsburgh has named Pennsylvania native Robin Harmony as the new head coach of the women’s basketball team, effective Monday.
Harmony’s Impressive Coaching Career
At 64 years old, Harmony brings a wealth of experience to Pitt. Over the past seven seasons at the College of Charleston, she led the Cougars to a 27-6 record and their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance this season.
Prior to Charleston, Harmony served as the head coach at St. Thomas (Fla.) and Lamar, compiling an impressive 369-198 record over her career.
In her final season at Charleston, Harmony was named the 2025-26 Coastal Athletic Association’s Coach of the Year and helped guide the Cougars to their first CAA Tournament championship.
Charleston’s 14th-seeded team made a run in the NCAA Tournament, although they were ultimately defeated by No. 3 seed Duke in the first round.
Athletic Director’s Statement
Pitt’s athletic director, Allen Greene, expressed enthusiasm about Harmony’s appointment: “We are thrilled to welcome Robin Harmony to Pitt. Throughout this process, it was important for us to find someone who understands the value of connection with our student-athletes, with our alumni, and with the broader Pitt community.
Coach Harmony has built a reputation on forming meaningful relationships with student-athletes and leading with an athlete-centered philosophy that prioritizes their growth both on and off the court.”
Harmony’s Vision for Pitt
A native of Hershey, Pa., Harmony is eager to build a program at Pitt that combines academic excellence with athletic achievement. She shared her excitement about the future: “I look forward to recruiting exceptional student-athletes to one of the nation’s leading academic institutions with a proud athletic tradition.
My promise to Pitt fans is to build a team that reflects the spirit of the University and the City of Pittsburgh with grit, determination, and teamwork.”
A New Era for Pitt Women’s Basketball
Harmony replaces Tory Verdi, who was let go following a tough 8-23 season, including a 1-17 record in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). The Panthers have not made an appearance in the Women’s NCAA Tournament since 2015, and Harmony’s goal will be to bring the program back to national prominence.
