CHARLESTON, S.C. — The St. Andrews Fire Department and the City of Charleston Fire Department responded to a working fire on Monday afternoon.

Incident Details

Fire crews were called to the 1100 block of Forbes Avenue just after 2 p.m. Upon arrival, they found a fire involving two racing trailers and surrounding grass.

Crews quickly got to work and were able to extinguish the flames within 10 minutes. The fire caused damage to the two trailers and a wooden fence.

Cause of the Fire

Chief Fire Marshal Kevin A. Berkel confirmed that the fire was accidentally started by sparks from scrap metal being cut apart under one of the trailers. The sparks ignited the dry brush underneath, leading to the fire.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident.
