Former Gastonia police convicted for making false statements while obtaining a handgun.

Xana Dayanae Dove, a 28-year-old former Gastonia Police officer, was sentenced to 15 months in federal prison plus 2 years supervised release for lying on a federal firearms purchase form.

Firearms violation details

On May 25, 2023, Dove bought a Springfield Hellcat Pro 9mm pistol from Shooters Express in Belmont, NC. She falsely claimed on ATF Form 4473 that she was the “actual buyer,” when records showed she was buying it for someone else—a felony under federal straw purchase laws.

Prior misconduct

In December 2023, Dove had pleaded guilty to 2 of 32 felonies tied to abusing Gastonia PD databases: 15 counts of unauthorized computer access and 4 felony conspiracies, earning her 11 months prison time for defrauding via official systems.

Sentencing outcome

Tuesday’s Charlotte federal hearing (Western District of NC) included forfeiture of the pistol; she’ll self-report to prison once assigned. This back-to-back sentencing underscores how her badge misuse eroded trust, leading to stiff penalties on both state and federal fronts.
