Police said a Johns Island woman is accused of murder.

Charleston police are investigating the homicide of Alan Atkinson, a 37-year-old Johns Island resident found dead on January 2, 2026, in the Twelve Oaks neighborhood off Fenwick Hall Allee.​

Officers responded around 5:30 a.m. to a report of a deceased man, later identified by the Charleston County Coroner’s Office as Atkinson, who died from multiple blunt force injuries. Detectives determined the injuries stemmed from a physical assault by his girlfriend, Chelsea Ann McDaniel, 37, of Charleston, during an argument days earlier; the internal trauma proved fatal.​
