George Hachey, a 75-year-old man from The Villages, Florida, pleaded no contest to attempted murder after stabbing his wife, 71-year-old Margery Greene, multiple times on September 28, 2022. The attack occurred days after Greene filed for divorce, and she survived after calling 911 despite severe wounds to her legs, abdomen, and chest.​
Incident Details
Deputies found Greene bleeding on the bedroom floor, begging not to die, while Hachey sat blood-covered and unresponsive in the living room with a pocketknife. Greene reported Hachey saying, “You’ve ruined my life, and now I’m going to end yours,” before the stabbing; later at the hospital, Hachey admitted to detectives, “I just tried killing my wife. I don’t want help, I want to die.”​
Legal Outcome
On December 16, 2025, Hachey received an 18-year prison sentence with credit for time served, and the Florida Department of Corrections lists his release for September 2040. Earlier coverage from Villages-News.com noted an expert witness was set to testify in his defense back in May 2024.​
