North Charleston Police have identified a dark blue or black BMW 740 Series sedan as a vehicle of interest in the fatal shooting of 4-year-old Merci Watson on December 16, 2025. The child was shot while inside or near a white Nissan on Van Buren Avenue around 6:45 p.m. and died the next morning at a hospital; investigators believe he was not the intended target.​​

No arrests have been made as of late December 2025, though several persons of interest are identified and the search for the BMW continues.
