A New York woman convicted of fatally stabbing a man after a night out has learnt her destiny.

Carrie Weiser, 36, was sentenced to 20 to life in prison on Thursday, Nov. 6, for the murder of Scott Myers, 68, a Catskill resident, in 2021.

In June 2024, a Greene County jury convicted Weiser of second-degree murder for stabbing Myers in the neck in late November 2021.

The two first met in 2018 and reconnected at a food pantry in November 2021 before heading to a bar on the night Myers, a local activist, was killed, according to the Times Union. He was murdered after he and Weiser walked home from the bar, according to investigators.

Weiser allegedly told police before her detention that he attempted to rape her and that she stabbed him in self-defense after he poisoned her drink.

Greene County District Attorney Joseph Stanzione said in a statement that investigators found no evidence to support the charges.

“Weiser has serious, serious mental health issues, which she has exhibited through her criminal acts, and she showed no interest in mental health treatment,” Stanzione said, adding that Myers was not the only person Weiser is accused of stabbing in the neck.

“In April of 2020, another man went to Columbia Memorial Hospital after being stabbed in his neck,” Stanzione stated in the statement.

That man almost died but was saved by hospital personnel. He originally refused to assist with law police, but after discovering that Myers had been stabbed to death, he called authorities “because he was afraid Weiser would continue her quest of stabbing men,” according to the statement.

The male allegedly told officials that during a sexual encounter, Weiser told him she “wanted to use her knife to make a small cut in his neck — that it would heighten their sexual experience,” according to Stanzione.

“Instead, she stabbed him twice, nearly causing his death,” he told me.

During the trial, Weiser and her counsel “chose to allege several alternate defenses, such as ‘Weiser was defending herself against abuse by Scott Myers,’ for which there was no evidence,” according to Stanzione.

Her attorney also claimed that Myers attempted to rape her, Stanzione said, adding that there was no proof of a rape, which Weiser rejected during her police interview the day of the murder, according to the statement.

Weiser’s counsel also claimed that Myers drugged her so “she doesn’t remember anything,” but Stanzione said there is no evidence that he did.

During the trial, however, Weiser’s counsel produced an audio of Weiser’s 911 call from that night, in which she can be heard slurring her speech and seeming “out of her mind,” according to the Times Union.

Her lawyer also claimed that Myers stabbed himself, but “the forensic pathologist presented contradictory evidence,” Stanzione stated in the statement. After Weiser was convicted guilty of killing Myers, her attorney attempted to have her sentence lowered by claiming she was a victim of domestic violence.

“My staff and law enforcement spent weeks following up on these allegations, which included speaking with witnesses, reviewing documents, and listening to jail phone calls,” Stanzione told the press. “Ms. Weiser proved to be quite a shrewd individual. She displayed no remorse at any point during the trials.”

Stanzione summarized his opinions on the verdict, saying Weiser “received the life sentence that she earned and deserves,” according to the statement.
