BCSO looking for guy who assaulted a deputy during a traffic encounter

Berkeley County, South Carolina — The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a man who allegedly assaulted a deputy during a traffic stop.

According to the sheriff’s office, a deputy pulled over a car on Old Mill Road in the St. Stephen neighborhood just before 6 a.m. Thursday for allegedly failing to stay in its lane and violating a traffic stop.

During the traffic encounter, officials discovered that the subject was attempting to lie to police about his identity. When deputies sought to detain the individual, he struck one and fled.

According to the sheriff’s office, the deputy was hurt during the assault.

Authorities are urgently looking for Kofi Amartei Opoku Nkromah, 39, of Rebecca Lane in Moncks Corner. If you see him or know where he is, please contact Berkeley County Dispatch at 843-719-5065.

The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office said that Nkromah had outstanding warrants from the South Carolina Highway Patrol for resisting arrest and is a known violent offender.
