Union, South Carolina – According to the Union Public Safety Department, a parent was jailed after his child died from a cardiac attack in September.
Officers reported responding to North Boyce Street on September 23, where Union County EMS was already on the scene. A one-year-old child was carried to Union Medical Center and died.
Public safety officials stated they called the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division’s Child Fatality Unit to assist with the investigation. Investigators then discovered that the Union County Sheriff’s Office had made a controlled purchase of narcotics at the same location just hours before the youngster died.
The sheriff’s office reported that additional restricted drug transactions occurred on Littlefield Street. The narcotics enforcement unit, along with SWAT and DEA officials, carried out a search warrant at the home of Tyrese and Kaci Crawford, brother and sister. Approximately 386 grams of marijuana, 31.03 grams of fentanyl, 0.49 grams of cocaine, and five guns were seized.
Tyrese Deshaun Crawford, 27, was charged with homicide by child neglect, according to police. An arrest warrant states that fentanyl was present inside the apartment at the time of the cardiac arrest.
According to the Union County Sheriff’s Office, Crawford faces the following additional charges:
Trafficking in fentanyl (4-14g), second or subsequent
Trafficking in fentanyl (4-14g), second or subsequent
Trafficking Fentanyl (28g or more)
PWID marijuana, second or subsequent.
Having a weapon during a violent crime
Possession of a weapon by a convicted violent offender (two counts). possession of a stolen pistol.
Kaci Sharell Crawford was accused with possession of cocaine and marijuana.
According to public safety officials, the inquiry is still ongoing.
