Hilton Head Island Public Transport Changes Effective Next Week

Hilton Head Island’s public transport network will see new service changes and expansions effective next week, focusing on improving connectivity across the island and enhancing eco-friendly mobility options.

Updates to The Breeze Trolley System

The Breeze Trolley, operated by the Lowcountry Regional Transportation Authority (Palmetto Breeze), is implementing several key modifications beginning the week of October 27, 2025, as part of the Town Council’s multimodal infrastructure upgrade plan.

Key route changes and additions:

Four new permanent stops added along William Hilton Parkway, including Local Legend Brewing Co.Ruan Thai CuisineNectar Farm Kitchen, and Comedy Magic Cabaret.

The Mid-Island Route and South Island Route will now operate on a synchronized 30-minute interval to reduce transfer wait times between Shelter Cove, Coligny Beach, and Folly Field.

A new Sunday shuttle connection from Park Plaza to the Village at Wexford will launch to accommodate seasonal demand.

Upgraded real-time tracking through the CatchTheBreeze mobile app, providing live position updates and arrival times for each trolley stop.

Operating hours effective next week:

Sunday–Thursday: 1 p.m. – 10 p.m.

Friday & Saturday: 1 p.m. – 11 p.m.
The trolley remains fare-free island-wide.

Multimodal Transport Enhancements

Hilton Head’s Town Council recently approved plans to expand pedestrian and cycling infrastructure linked to public transit corridors. These include:

New sidewalk networks and bike lanes near Shelter Cove Lane and Lagoon Road.

A pilot shared-mobility hub near Coligny Circle integrating trolley, bike-share, and electric scooter docking.

Increased shuttle frequency around North Forest Beach and the Courtyard by Marriott area to improve evening mobility for hospitality workers and tourists.

Eastbound Bridge Project & Traffic Adjustments

In addition to bus and trolley changes, residents should prepare for temporary detours and adjusted stop locations along U.S. 278 due to the upcoming Hilton Head Eastbound Bridge Project public meetings (October 30, 2025). These works tie into broader efforts aimed at long-term traffic relief and transit safety upgrades, aligning with the town’s goal to make Hilton Head one of the Southeast’s most walkable and transit-accessible communities by 2030.

Starting next week, Hilton Head Island’s transport network will see new Breeze trolley stops, expanded multimodal routes, and start times designed to improve convenience for riders while moving toward sustainable local mobility.
