Join the Charleston Walk to End Alzheimer's.

Charleston, South Carolina – Participating in the Alzheimer’s Association’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s is one way you can help combat the disease.

The annual walk is the world’s largest event dedicated to raising awareness and funding for Alzheimer’s care and research.

According to the Alzheimer’s Association, more than seven million Americans suffer from Alzheimer’s disease, which is the leading cause of mortality in the United States.

Additionally, nearly 12 million family members and friends care for people with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.

More than 112,500 people in South Carolina are living with the disease, and 224,000 are caretakers.

On walk day, participants will honor Alzheimer’s patients with a Promise Garden ceremony. Throughout the ceremony and the walk, individuals will hold brilliantly colored flowers, with each color signifying their personal connection to the disease.

The walk, which is accessible to all ages and abilities, will take place on Saturday, October 26, at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park (360 Fishburne Street) in Charleston.

Gates will open at 2:00 p.m., with an opening ceremony at 2:45 p.m. To register, go to alz.org/walk or call 800-272-3900.
