Camden, South Carolina — Two Florida residents are in custody after an armed burglary attempt and a high-speed automobile chase through Camden on Friday afternoon.
Around 1:40 p.m., Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) deputies responded to a complaint of an attempted house invasion in the 900 block of Wateree Boulevard.
The homeowner, alerted by her doorbell video, saw a masked man on her doorstep with birthday balloons in one hand and what appeared to be a weapon in the other.
The suspect attempted to enter the residence but was unsuccessful because the homeowner refused to open the door and immediately dialed 911.
Moments afterward, the armed suspect departed the area in a white SUV without license plates, driven by another person. Deputies arrived in the location in minutes and found the suspect vehicle nearby. When they tried a traffic stop, the suspects refused to pull over, resulting in a high-speed pursuit at speeds nearing 100 mph.
The chase ended when the suspects lost control of their SUV on Broad Street (Hwy 521) near I-20. The car overturned and hit many trees before coming to a halt.
