SOUTH CAROLINA— Sheriff Michael August said a guy was detained Tuesday morning after a stabbing in the Hartsville region of Darlington County.
Around 10 p.m. Monday, deputies went to a report on Ashland Road about a domestic incident.
When authorities arrived, the culprit had left, and they discovered a victim with multiple stab wounds. The Darlington County Sheriff’s Office reported that the victim was sent to a local hospital.
Deputies used drones from Darlington and Chesterfield counties, as well as bloodhounds from Darlington County and the Hartsville Police Department, to locate Melvin Justin Atkinson hiding in a truck near Clyde School Road. Atkinson was arrested on the scene and is currently being held at the W. Glenn Campbell Detention Center.
Atkinson is charged with attempted murder. Authorities said the investigation is still ongoing, and further information would be disclosed as it becomes available.
