Greer Mayor Announces New Infrastructure Projects

Greer’s Mayor Rick Danner recently announced an ambitious infrastructure improvement plan under the “ForGreer” initiative, focusing on enhancing public safety, recreation, and downtown accessibility in 2025 and beyond.

Key Projects Announced:

  1. Public Safety Training Center
Construction is underway on a state-of-the-art Public Safety Training Center at the former Fire Department Training Center on Hood Road. The facility will include a 50-yard indoor firing range, a fire training tower, and seminar classrooms. This center will provide Greer Police and Fire Departments with advanced training capabilities, reducing the need to use facilities in other municipalities. It is scheduled for completion by spring 2026.
  2. New Sports & Events Center
Responding to growing demand for recreational facilities, Greer is building a $60 million Sports & Events Center on South Highway 14. The 200,000+ square foot facility will feature multiple basketball and volleyball courts, an indoor walking track, e-sports facilities, and flexible community meeting spaces. It aims to boost local programming and attract regional and national sports events, estimating up to $20 million in annual economic impact. The project is progressing rapidly, with groundbreaking planned soon and an expected early 2027 opening.
  3. New Fire Station in Lake Cunningham Area
To better serve the expanding northern suburbs, a new suburban fire station is in design stages. It will house water rescue apparatus and Quick Response Vehicle (QRV) medical teams, enhancing emergency response in growing neighborhoods.
  4. Parking Garage Downtown
A new five-story parking garage with 508 spaces is planned for Depot Street in the central business district. This garage will relieve existing parking congestion and support business growth around Greer Station. The design incorporates modern elements with historic mill heritage aesthetics, although construction start date is not yet announced.
  5. Wastewater Infrastructure Expansion
Separately, Greer’s Commission of Public Works secured a $10 million grant to expand wastewater treatment capacity at the Maple Creek facility, addressing future growth and improving stormwater resilience. This $13.2 million project began construction in mid-2025 and is expected to complete by late 2026 without service disruptions.

Overall Impact

The Mayor emphasized that these projects aim to balance Greer’s rapid growth with improved quality of life, public safety, and community amenities. By investing in public safety, recreation, and infrastructure, Greer intends to create a modern, sustainable city that meets the needs of its residents and attracts new economic opportunities.

Residents and stakeholders can follow project updates and participate in advisory meetings through the city’s project website and public forums, ensuring transparency and community involvement throughout the improvement process.
