CHARLESTON, SC – Hoda Kotb has a new book and spoke about it with over 100 of her fans in Charleston on Saturday.
The book “Jump and Find Joy: Embracing Change in Every Season of Life” discusses, among other things, discovering a new route and purpose.
“I feel like I was just at The Today Show yesterday,” Kotb stated.
The seasoned journalist, mother, business entrepreneur, and author left The Today Show in January of this year.
“It was such a fantastic time of my life, and it kind of defined me, you know, when people asked what I did or who I was. I would say, “Oh, I work at the Today Show, with Jenna, and Savannah.” That was who I was, and if you’ve ever been identified in one manner your entire life, you know how it feels, and changing it is daunting,” she added.
For Kotb, the transition entails both a new company and a new book.
“I’ve always considered starting a business. Should I do it? Do I understand how to do it? I have never done it. I’m not sure what that implies, but I made the decision. “You only get one chance,” she added.
One of the numerous ways Kotb uses her time and venues is to inspire and educate people.
She encouraged the audience, “So if you want to attempt something, do it. Do something. I just decided in that moment that even though I was having a great time, this season was about starting again.”
Kotb was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007, at the age of 40, but she overcame the disease with therapy and support from family, friends, and fans. She covers the period of her life in the book.
“I prefer to have control over things, and even though we know we do, we don’t. And I suppose cancer was simply too huge for me. I couldn’t do anything about it. All I could do was find an excellent doctor and fall asleep during surgery. I mean, what else are you doing? And I believe I was thinking to myself at the time, “Is this the end?”
The book included contributions from stars such as Academy Award winner Viola Davis.
Her book tour plan includes several stops in the United States. To learn more, click here.
