Shooting at a Family Party
According to police reports and witness accounts, the shooting happened shortly after midnight. Witnesses identified 19-year-old Leonardo Campos Torres as the gunman. He was arrested on the scene by Balch Springs police officers.
Authorities later confirmed that Torres and Montes were distant relatives. The shooting followed a heated argument that escalated quickly during the celebration.
What Led to the Shooting?
According to an affidavit obtained by the San Luis Obispo Tribune, witnesses said Torres had been firing a handgun in the driveway near his Chevrolet Tahoe earlier in the night.
