A 30-year-old man from Charleston County, Rayekon Daniel Jones, is facing serious drug and gun charges after being pulled over by North Charleston police on Wednesday afternoon. Jones has been charged with felony possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm or ammunition by a convicted felon.
What Happened During the Traffic Stop?
Police stopped Jones for a window tint violation. While interacting with him, one of the officers noticed the smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle. When asked, Jones admitted to having a firearm stored in the glove compartment. The officers retrieved the gun and, upon further investigation, discovered Jones had a prior felony drug conviction.
Legal Consequences for Jones
Because of his prior felony conviction, it is illegal for Jones to possess a firearm or ammunition. As a result of these findings, he is facing charges related to both drug possession and unlawful gun ownership. Jones is currently being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center.
The case is ongoing, and authorities are continuing to investigate.
