Traffic remains heavily congested on Interstate 77 in Chester County following a fatal crash on Tuesday morning. According to the S.C. Department of Transportation, at 1:30 p.m., there were at least four miles of backups with traffic moving at speeds below 20 miles per hour. The crash occurred on the northbound side of I-77 near mile marker 64, which is south of Rock Hill, and is a main route connecting Columbia and Charlotte.
Crash Details and Traffic Impact
Both northbound lanes of I-77 were initially blocked following the incident, but the right lane was later reopened. Despite the partial reopening, traffic continued to be backed up for several miles, causing significant delays.
Chester County deputies reported that multiple agencies responded to the scene after the serious collision. WSOC-TV, The Herald’s news partner, reported that their helicopter observed an RV towing a car off the highway, located in the woods.
