Authorities in Charleston County, South Carolina, arrested a man after a high-speed chase that ended in a crash in Mount Pleasant.
Pursuit Across Multiple Roads
The incident began Wednesday afternoon when deputies tried to stop a suspect wanted out of Berkeley County.
The driver fled, leading law enforcement along U.S. Highway 17 and Interstate 26 toward North Charleston. The chase continued onto North Rhett Avenue, where deputies temporarily lost sight of the vehicle.
Suspect Attempted to Alter Vehicle
Investigators later found the suspect at a nearby gas station attempting to spray-paint the vehicle, apparently to change its appearance.
The driver then continued fleeing along Highway 41 into Mount Pleasant. Deputies deployed stop sticks at two locations, successfully flattening two tires.
Crash and Arrest
The vehicle eventually crashed into a tree near West Coleman Boulevard and Magrath Darby Boulevard. The driver attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended shortly afterward.
Authorities said the suspect will be evaluated at a hospital before being booked into the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center.
Assistance From Aerial Support
The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office said their helicopter, Air 1, provided aerial surveillance during the chase and the suspect’s attempted escape.
The suspect’s identity has not yet been released, and the sheriff’s office said additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
