A shocking case from Florida has drawn national attention after a woman was accused of killing both of her former husbands on the same day. The case is now even more serious, as prosecutors are seeking the death penalty in one of the murders.
Case Overview
A 51-year-old woman, Susan Avalon, is facing murder charges in two separate counties. Authorities say she fatally shot her ex-husbands, Timothy Flecher, aged 55, and David Scott, aged 54, on December 17, 2025.
She has pleaded not guilty in both cases. However, the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office has confirmed it will seek the death penalty in the case related to Flecher.
First Incident in Bradenton
The first shooting took place in Bradenton, where David Scott was found with a gunshot wound to his chest.
His teenage daughter called emergency services. Before passing away, Scott reportedly told deputies that his ex-wife might have been responsible. This statement became a key part of the investigation.
Investigators later found evidence that suggested someone matching Avalon’s description had taken food from a nearby Panera Bread restaurant shortly before the incident. Authorities believe this may have been used as a way to approach the home without raising suspicion.
Second Incident in Tampa
The second shooting happened in Tampa, where Timothy Flecher was found dead at his home.
Police received a strange 911 call from Flecher’s phone. The caller did not speak, but sounds similar to gunshots were heard before the call ended. When the dispatcher called back, a woman answered briefly and then disconnected the call.
Witnesses reported seeing a woman leaving the home in a silver vehicle, wearing clothing similar to what was seen in surveillance footage from the earlier incident.
Police Investigation
Authorities connected both cases through several pieces of evidence:
- Surveillance footage showing a person matching Avalon’s description
- Witness accounts of a vehicle and clothing
- Statements from people close to the suspect
- Behaviour observed when police approached Avalon
When officers went to question her, they reportedly saw her cleaning her car with bleach and rags. When told they wanted to speak about her ex-husband, she allegedly asked, “Which one?” — a statement that raised suspicion.
Legal Status
Avalon has been charged with:
- First-degree murder in the Tampa case
- Second-degree murder in the Bradenton case
She is currently in custody without bond. Her upcoming court dates are scheduled for July in both counties.
Serious Legal Consequences
The decision to seek the death penalty in one of the cases shows how seriously prosecutors are treating the allegations. If convicted, Avalon could face the most severe punishment under the law.
