JEANERETTE, LA — Two men have been arrested following the alleged kidnapping and assault of a pregnant woman who was thrown from a moving vehicle, authorities said. The incident occurred in Jeanerette, approximately 120 miles west of New Orleans.
Incident Details
Police were called around 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday after reports that a female victim had been thrown from a moving vehicle on Katherine Street. Residents assisted the woman and provided information about her attackers to law enforcement.
The victim, who was reportedly pregnant at the time, was transported to a local hospital for treatment and evaluation. Authorities confirmed that one of the suspects was dating the woman.
Suspects and Charges
Brett Michael Phillips, 34, faces multiple charges including:
- Domestic abuse battery on a pregnant victim
- Second-degree kidnapping
- Attempted first-degree feticide
- Reckless operation of a motor vehicle
Chris Adam Phillips, 36, faces charges as a principal in the same crimes, as well as:
- Failure to seek assistance
- Simple assault
The relationship between the two men has not been clarified by authorities.
Arrest and Custody
With assistance from local residents, police apprehended both suspects. They were booked into the Juandre Gilliam Law Enforcement Center and later transferred to the Iberia Parish Jail. Court dates have not yet been announced.
