A Kansas man has been charged with murder after authorities alleged his dogs fatally attacked a 13-year-old neighbor and that he later disposed of the boy’s body.
Man Charged in Teen’s Death
According to prosecutors, 47-year-old Damon Leonard faces charges including second-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter, interference with law enforcement, criminal desecration of a dead body and permitting a dangerous animal to run at large.
The charges stem from the December 2025 death of 13-year-old Airen Andula in Linn County, Kansas.
Fatal Dog Attack Alleged
Investigators believe Airen was riding his bicycle to a friend’s house when he was attacked by Leonard’s dogs, described as mixed mastiff and pit bull breeds.
Family members said the teenager was helping care for a friend’s animals while the family was away when the attack occurred.
Body Allegedly Moved After Death
Authorities allege that after the attack, Leonard transported Airen’s body and disposed of it in a ravine in Missouri.
Leonard was previously convicted in Missouri of abandonment of a corpse and was sentenced to four years in prison.
Family Seeks Justice
Airen’s family said they were devastated not only by the teenager’s death but also by the allegation that his body was hidden while loved ones searched for him.
The Kansas criminal case remains ongoing.
