An Illinois man has been sentenced to 75 years in prison for killing his wife and driving around with her body before being arrested.
75-Year Sentence Imposed
John W. Finney, 52, was convicted of first-degree murder in the death of his wife, 42-year-old Amy J. Finney.
Following his conviction, a judge sentenced him to 75 years in prison.
Body Found in SUV
Authorities began investigating on Sept. 1, 2025, after receiving a report of a possible homicide in Jefferson County.
Police later stopped Finney’s gray Ford Escape and found Amy Finney dead inside the vehicle.
Evidence Pointed to Family Home
Investigators determined the couple’s residence was the scene of the crime.
According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, evidence showed Amy Finney died from a gunshot wound during a domestic dispute.
Transfer to State Prison
Authorities believe Finney killed his wife on Aug. 31, 2025, and spent hours driving around with her body before his arrest the next day.
He will be transferred to the Illinois Department of Corrections to serve his sentence.
