A California health official has been charged after a bride-to-be was killed in a hit-and-run in San Diego.
Incident Details
On Friday, May 22, 27-year-old Katie Osorio was waiting at a bus stop when a car veered onto the sidewalk, striking the enclosed structure. The vehicle reportedly ran over her a second time before fleeing the scene. Katie was taken to the hospital and later died from her injuries.
Suspect
41-year-old Assmaa Elayyat, Deputy Director of Self-Sufficiency Services for San Diego County Health and Human Services, was arrested and charged with vehicular manslaughter and felony hit-and-run. She was released on $50,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on June 1.

Katie Osorio was set to marry in July and was described by family as a devoted daughter, cousin, and friend who worked tirelessly to support her mother. A GoFundMe has been created to assist her loved ones.
