Jury selection is set to begin on Monday for a former Charleston County deputy involved in a tragic accident that killed a mother and her two daughters on Mother’s Day in 2022. The crash has drawn attention due to the deputy’s actions leading to the deaths of the victims.
Details of the Crash
The incident occurred in May 2022 when former Deputy Emily Pelletier was responding to a disabled vehicle. While driving her patrol car, she failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with a vehicle carrying Stephanie Dantzler and her daughters, Shanice and Miranda Dantzler-Williams. Tragically, all three victims died at the scene of the crash.
The Cause of the Crash
At the time of the accident, Pelletier’s emergency lights and sirens were not activated. According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Pelletier was driving approximately 73 mph, far exceeding the speed limit of 40 mph in the area where the collision occurred.
Charges and Arrest
As a result of the crash, Pelletier has been charged with three counts of reckless homicide. She turned herself in at the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center in June 2022, and she was subsequently fired from her position as a deputy.
The tragic crash has led to a high-profile legal case, and the jury selection process for the trial is now underway. Many await the outcome, as the case has stirred emotions and concerns about accountability in law enforcement.
