A North Carolina teenager has been charged with murder after allegedly shooting his girlfriend’s father, who was trying to protect his daughter during a domestic dispute.
Father Killed While Defending Daughter
According to Concord Police, 17-year-old Keshaun Tirrell Degraffenreid got into an argument with his 16-year-old girlfriend at a home in Concord shortly after midnight on Monday. Authorities say the dispute turned physical and Degraffenreid punched the girl in the face.
When the girl’s father, 47-year-old Lester Jones, stepped in to protect her, Degraffenreid allegedly opened fire.
Daughter Also Injured
Police said Jones was killed at the scene, while his daughter was seriously injured by gunfire and taken to a hospital. Her current condition has not been released.
Teen Charged as Adult
Officers later located Degraffenreid nearby and arrested him after a brief foot chase.
He is being charged as an adult with first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, domestic violence, and resisting officers.
Degraffenreid made his first court appearance on Wednesday and is scheduled to return to court on June 18.
