Jariah Edwards, a 17-year-old from Arizona, was fatally shot in the head by her boyfriend, Trevon Williams, 21, while visiting San Diego with her family. Edwards was due to give birth in just a few weeks.
Incident Details
The shooting occurred early Saturday morning near a short-term vacation rental where Edwards and her family were staying. Williams allegedly arrived unannounced with flowers and convinced Edwards to come outside.
San Diego Police Department (SDPD) reported multiple 911 calls at approximately 1:10 a.m. after the shooting. Officers found Edwards with a gunshot wound to the head.
Immediate Medical Response
Paramedics quickly transported Edwards to a hospital. An emergency cesarean section was performed to try to save her unborn child. Edwards died despite life-saving efforts, and the newborn remains in critical condition.
Arrest and Charges
Williams fled on foot after the shooting but was located near 4900 September Street at about 3:00 a.m. A semiautomatic handgun was recovered at the scene. He was booked into San Diego County Jail on suspicion of murder and is expected to appear in court this week.
Family and Community Reaction
Edwards’ family described her as “one of the sweetest people” who was excited to become a mother. Her tragic death has left her loved ones devastated.
