Break-ins at Spartanburg apartment complex cause damage to eight vehicles, according to police

The Spartanburg Police Department reported that eight vehicles were broken into early Saturday morning at Riverwind Apartments on Heywood Avenue.

Incident Details

Officers responded around 3:12 a.m. after a caller reported four people seen rummaging through vehicles. A witness provided footage showing masked individuals dressed in black inside the cars. The suspects were later seen running through a wooded area toward Beverly Road.

Previous Activity

The same witness reported multiple vehicle break-ins on May 2. Both incidents occurred near buildings 1700 and 1800, which lead to a trail and Beverly Road.

Damage and Evidence

All eight vehicles had passenger-side windows forced open, with glove boxes and center consoles left open. Vehicles involved included a 2017 Nissan Sentra, 2004 Chevy Tahoe, 2015 Toyota RAV4, 2018 Toyota Corolla, 2015 Audi S4, 2011 Lexus, 2019 Toyota Corolla, and 2019 Toyota RAV4. A bookbag containing miscellaneous items was found in the parking lot and placed into evidence.

Investigation

Police continue to investigate. Vehicle owners reported varying levels of theft; two said nothing was stolen. FOX Carolina will provide updates as more information becomes available.
