BOZEMAN, MONT. — Jakob Steven Lundberg, 22, has been arrested following a fatal shooting outside the Rocking R Bar in downtown Bozeman. The incident left 29-year-old Sidney Callaghan dead, authorities said.
Incident Overview
The altercation began inside the Rocking R Bar in the early hours of May 25. Witnesses reported a physical fight between Lundberg and Callaghan, which continued outside after staff intervened.
Police say Lundberg returned to the scene armed after retrieving a handgun from his vehicle. According to an affidavit, he shot Callaghan multiple times in a crowded area with numerous bystanders present.
Law Enforcement Response
First responders rushed Callaghan to Bozeman Deaconess Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Officers quickly identified Lundberg’s vehicle and later arrested him near a local Walmart.
The firearm used in the shooting was recovered after Lundberg allegedly disposed of it near a white van. A police canine assisted in locating the weapon.
Charges and Court Appearance
Lundberg faces one count each of deliberate homicide, criminal endangerment, and tampering with evidence. He appeared in court for an initial hearing, where his bond was set at $1.5 million. Authorities have indicated that formal charges will be filed in the coming weeks as the investigation continues.
Gallatin County Attorney Audrey Cromwell commented, “Violence of this magnitude in the heart of our community is devastating. Our office will continue working closely with law enforcement to ensure a thorough review of the evidence and to seek justice for Sidney.”
Lundberg remains in custody at the Gallatin County Detention Facility.
