RICHBURG, S.C. — Bodycam footage released Friday captured a Chester County deputy rescuing a driver from a burning car after a single-vehicle crash on I‑77 near Old Richburg Road on May 23.

The Crash and Rescue

Deputy Threatt responded to the overturned vehicle, which was partially engulfed in flames, with the driver trapped inside by her seatbelt.

Bodycam video shows Threatt scanning for debris, breaking the driver’s side window, and pulling the woman from the burning car. Threatt described his thoughts at the moment: “As I was getting ready to go in and get her, I kept thinking, ‘This car could blow up at any moment.’ This is where me and her meet God.”

Driver’s Story

Authorities later learned the driver was an out-of-state traveler on her way from Chester to Charlotte to celebrate completing radiation treatments for breast cancer.

Response and Praise

Additional first responders quickly arrived, extinguished the fire, and treated the driver. The Chester County Sheriff’s Office commended Threatt, stating: “Every day, the men and women of law enforcement face the unknown and run toward danger. Thank you, Deputy Threatt, for your selfless service, quick thinking, and bravery.”
