A Florida man is accused of attacking a woman while she was walking her dog, stabbing her in the face with a homemade weapon.
The Attack
Raydean Johnson, 49, allegedly ambushed the woman near Biscayne Boulevard and Northeast 8th Street in Miami. He reportedly pushed her to the ground, punched her in the head, slammed her face into the pavement, and stabbed her multiple times with a “homemade shank.”
Bystander Intervention
A witness saw the attack and helped the victim escape by pushing and kicking Johnson away. The victim was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, including a broken left orbital socket, deep lacerations to her nose, and permanent facial disfigurement.
Standoff with Police
Johnson refused to surrender when police arrived, leading to a three-hour standoff. During this time, he vandalized a building wall with phrases like “REPENT ALL” and threatened officers. Police used Tasers and a tactical shield to subdue him safely.
Confession and Charges
After being transported to the hospital, Johnson admitted he attacked the victim because “the devil told him to do it.” He faces charges of attempted murder and aggravated battery causing severe bodily harm. Johnson is being held without bond at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
